Gail Mitchell serves as Billboard’s Executive Director of R&B/Hip-Hop in addition to writing and reporting about music business news for the magazine and online. Mitchell has moderated panels and Q&A’s for industry organizations such as ASCAP, BMI, the Recording Academy, the GRAMMY Museum and the Revolt Music Conference. She has also represented Billboard in stories and broadcast interviews for various media outlets including CNN Entertainment, CNN.com, CNN’s Anderson Cooper 360, CNN Tonight with Don Lemon, NBC’s Today Show, CBS This Morning, CBS News Radio, MSNBC’s The Rachel Maddow Show, USA Today, E! True Hollywood Story, E! News, TV Guide Network, MSNBC, CNBC, ABCnews.com, BET, PBS, Centric, TV One, A&E, Extra, Reelz, BBC Television and Japan’s WOWOW TV.
Mitchell also serves on the board of Loyola Marymount University’s African-American Alumni Association (AAAA) as well as on the editorial advisory board for the university’s alumni publication, LMU. She is the 2014 recipient of the Living Legends Foundation’s Media Award and the 2013 recipient of LMU/AAAA’s William L. Strickland ’71 Excellence Award. Her music industry service also includes two terms as a national trustee representing the Los Angeles Chapter of the Recording Academy.
