Amy Macy is a Professor in the Department of Recording Industry at Middle Tennessee State University. Macy has served as the Music Business Internship Coordinator for 10 years and has taught Marketing of Recordings, Record Retail Operations, Survey of the Recording Industry, the Lecture Series, and an Old Time String Band Music Ensemble, in addition to assisting with the student-run record label, MATCH Records. She has co-authored the textbook, Record Label Marketing, which is now in its third edition and has been adopted by USC, NYU, UCLA, State of New York University, James Union, Colorado University, Drexel, Belmont University, McNally Smith College of Music and MTSU. She also teaches through the online Desire2Learn system. Macy has been the recipient of various teaching awards including the Distinguished Educator in Distance Learning and the Outstanding Achievement in Instructional Technology. She is an alum of Nashville's famed Leadership Music.

 

Prior to her role as a professor, Macy worked for various labels for over 15 years, including MTM, MCA, Sparrow Records and the RCA Label Group. She created strategic marketing plans for launching new releases, working closely with artists and managers such as Martina McBride, Kenny Chesney, Clint Black, Alabama and Lonestar. Macy was also responsible for all sales at the national retail level with clients including Walmart, Kmart, Target, Best Buy, Musicland, and more. Macy has toured professional as a musician, and is accomplished vocally, as well as on guitar, fiddle and banjo. She has performed in musicals, been an artist-in-residence at the Country Music Hall of Fame, and created a concert series highlighting the Civil War and the migration of Irish Music.
