The globalization of music is real. With people around the world connected to the internet, streaming services are making music more accessible than ever before. In this session, Nielsen will present the top streaming trends impacting music consumption, the top 10 music markets in the world and the distinct characteristics of each, as well as spotlight the highest growth markets by revenue. Nielsen will also share its analysis on the top 200 globally streamed songs by genre and the countries that possess the power to propel songs to international stardom.

While the industry continues to evolve with the growth in streaming due to large digital music platforms, it’s important to think about business in a global marketplace, rather than on a national basis. It’s also a critical time to evaluate the next frontier of digital licensing while maximizing the value of copyright and leveraging the tools that exist to discover every revenue source.


This panel will discuss the cultural and technological barriers as well as potential solutions. The panel will also drive a conversation about simplifying the online licensing process—while identifying platforms that will maximize efficiency and the need for multiple license types in multiple territories.


Does the large amount of data/music consumption in the digital landscape drive transparency and enhanced efficiency in the licensing process? Will artists and songwriters collect accurate royalty payments? Are publishers losing money in Europe? These are just a few of the questions that can kick off a productive conversation.
